Providence Canyon - The effects of erosion due to poor farming practices in the 19th century contributed to the growth of the massive gullies. Water has eroded layers of marine sediments of clay to form the 150-foot deep canyon. Listen to Brent Cobb’s album “Providence Canyon” if you need further inspiration to visit the state park.

I remember visiting the park for the first time at a very young age with my father and my grandparents. Providence Canyon is ingrained into virtually everyone’s childhood in Southwest Georgia. Everyone says, “Oh, I remember going there when I was younger - It was pretty cool!” The canyon seems so out of place in South Georgia yet at the same time it somehow belongs there just perfectly.
